Students protest State College barbershops for refusing to cut Negro hair

Three hundred students protested six State College barbershops that refused to cut Negro hair. Led by CORE and the local NAACP, the majority of protesters were white students. Funds were raised to lease shop space and bring in a barber from outside of State College who agreed to cut Negro hair. The new shop opened downtown in September 1949.
