John Mitchell
On September 9, 1989, John Mitchell debuted as the first African American featured twirler in the Penn State Marching Blue Band. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and had twice held the title of “Mr. Black Penn State.â€
On October 14, 1992, he was elected Penn State’s first African American Homecoming King.
